The American Express Membership Rewards and Citi ThankYou programs periodically offer transfer bonuses when you move points from their credit card programs to some of their hotel and airline transfer partners. If you are able to move points when these transfer bonuses are in effect, you are basically giving yourself free extra points. The flip side of that is once you move points from the transferable credit card programs to the individual hotel or airline programs, you are locking yourself into using the points in that one program. Be sure that is how you want to use your points before pulling the trigger.

Limited time 30% transfer bonus from Citi to Flying Blue

If you need to beef up your KLM/Air France Flying Blue balance, you can jump on a new 30% transfer bonus from the Citi ThankYou program to Flying Blue as long as you act by August 29, 2018. With this bonus, what would normally be a 1,000 to 1,000 transfer ratio becomes an even better 1,000 to 1,300 point transfer.

If you want to really be a miles and points rockstar, you could stack this transfer bonus from Citi with the current Flying Blue monthly promo awards that offer up to 50% discounts on awards from select cities. This month, you can book economy awards from Houston and Washington Dulles to Europe for 50% off, which effectively drops the price to just 9,423 Citi ThankYou points + $68 in taxes in the Houston to Amsterdam example shown below.

If an economy seat isn’t your goal, you could fly in business class from Houston to Paris on Air France for 51,154 ThankYou points + $218 in taxes if you took advantage of the 30% transfer bonus from Citi and then jumped on this well-priced business class award.

That is a very good deal for a nonstop business class award from Houston to Paris.

Use Flying Blue to book Delta operated flights

You can take advantage of this 30% transfer bonus from Citi ThankYou and book awards via Flying Blue even if you don’t want to leave the United States or fly on KLM or Air France since you can book Delta operated award on the Flying Blue website.

Factoring in the 30% transfer bonus, that 11,500 mile Delta award would cost you about 8,846 Citi ThankYou points. As always, compare the cost of paid tickets or using Delta SkyMiles before deciding whether or not that is a good deal.

Is the Flying Blue program a part of your family’s miles and points strategy?

Thanks to One Mile at a Time for spotting this bonus.
